What is Solar PV?
PV stands for 'photovoltaic'. Solar photovoltaic panels capture the sun's renewable energy and turn it into electricity which can supply power for a house or a commercial building. A solar PV system is made up of solar PV panels which are made from thin layers of a silicon based material. As soon as the sunlight hits the solar PV panels, it is converted into direct current (DC) electricity. A box called an inverter then converts this to alternating current (AC) electricity, which can be used to power the home.
The government introduced the Feed in Tariff in April 2010. There has never been a more profitable time to produce solar electricity.
