Cottenham company has a green tree-t for customers on World Environment Day
Cottenham company Kershaw Contracting Services is backing World Environment Day 2008 with a pledge to plant a tree for every new insulation order in June.
The company already considers itself to be “green” because of the nature of its work: installing extra insulation and new fuel-efficient boilers for homes.
And this new pledge is to help raise local awareness of the day organised by the United Nations every 5th June.
Mick Rayson is the managing director of Kershaw Contracting Services.
He said: “The theme of World Environment Day this year is about kicking the habit of CO2. We’re delighted our business already helps people kick the habit of wasting money and energy by not having good enough insulation.
“With this pledge we’re starting a new good habit, of taking even more steps to reduce CO2 with tree planting. It would be great to see hundreds of other Cambridge businesses follow this lead and help raise awareness of this vital day.”
Mick and his team will be buying trees to be planted by the Woodland Trust. They will be planted at 20 different woods across the UK.
Kershaw Contracting Services is a division of the Cambridge-based Kershaw Group, which employs 183 people.
Parts of the group have a history stretching back 120 years.
It’s well known for its involvement in the community, including sponsoring Cambridge United’s away shirts.
