Cambridge expert’s 3 ways to cut your home’s fuel bills before winter
It’s the start of autumn already – and a Cambridge expert is suggesting three proven ways that local people can save money on expensive fuel bills.
Ian Macklin is the Managing Director of Cottenham insulation and heating company Kershaw Contracting Services.
And he believes thousands of local people can easily cut expensive fuel bills at a difficult time of year.
“It’s going to get colder from here on and that’s going to push heating bills up,” Ian said.
“We might be starting to come out of the recession but people are still watching the pennies. And many are going to get a shock as they feel the impact of the fuel price increases over the last 12 months.”
Ian suggests every local homeowner takes three simple steps to make their home warmer and cut the amount of fuel they need to buy and burn.
The steps are:
1. Fit more loft insulation: A quarter of a home’s heat vanishes through the roof. Fitting insulation can save up to £150 a year. And many local people will be eligible for a grant
2. Get a new boiler: If yours is on its last legs anyway, it’s a false economy to try to get another winter out of it. Not only will it most likely break down on the coldest day of the year when boiler engineers have the highest rates, but new boilers are highly fuel-efficient, costing less to heat a house
3. Turn your thermostat down: Dropping your thermostat by just one degree can save more than £50 a year... and you probably won’t notice the difference
