150 Cambridge pensioners take advantage of free insulation scheme
150 pensioners in Cambridge have made their homes greener and cheaper to keep warm with free insulation from a local business.
Over the last three months, Kershaw Contracting Services, part of the city’s Kershaw Group, has helped them apply for a 100% insulation grant from the government.
And the money allowed them to make their homes more energy efficient. Some had new loft insulation fitted; others had cavity walls filled.
The business’s Mick Rayson said: “Everyone has benefited from the government money.
“It’s fantastic to be able to help local people who would not have been able to afford this important work.
“Proper insulation in their homes means they pay less to heat them, which is vital with home fuel bills going up so much. It also means they are burning less fuel and helping the environment.”
Mick added: “From our point of view as the largest domestic insulation installer in Cambridge, this government money has kept our insulation teams busy doing good for those who need help.”
Kershaw Contracting Services worked with its OAP customers to help them through the grant application process.
Family members were encouraged to get involved, so everyone was clear what was happening, and could see it genuinely didn’t cost them anything.
The grant scheme is still open for other local people aged 70 or over who need help reducing their heating costs. They should contact Kershaw Contracting Services on 01223 250155.
The business is a division of the Cambridge-based Kershaw Group, which employs 183 people.
Parts of the group have a history stretching back 120 years.
It’s well known for its involvement in the community, including sponsoring Cambridge United’s away shirts.
