Cambridge homeowners are missing out on energy efficiency grants
Thousands of Cambridge people could be missing out on energy efficiency grants – because they just don’t know about them.
That’s the view of local expert Ian Macklin, the Managing Director of Cottenham insulation and heating company Kershaw Contracting Services.
He believes that many local homeowners are needlessly wasting hundreds of pounds a year on expensive energy.
“When you insulate your home properly you don’t have to burn so much fuel to heat it, meaning your bills fall,” Ian explained.
“And if you haven’t had to spend much on insulation because you have got a grant, then there’s no downside. You are also reducing your contribution towards climate change.”
Ian believes there is a perception among homeowners that grants are only for those on low incomes.
But he said: “Actually there are all sorts of grants available for people in all sorts of different circumstances. One of the problems is there are too many types of grants and they change regularly.
“But if you are willing to do a little research you could soon find yourself getting very cheap insulation, or even a new high efficiency condensing boiler for less than the full price.”
An examples of grants currently available to Cambridge homeowners include one where funding provided by the utility companies is used to pay for insulation and heating.
Kershaw Contracting Services specialises in fitting cavity wall insulation, loft insulation and high efficiency central heating systems.
