Cottenham company makes social housing more energy efficient
A company based in Cottenham has played a significant part in making three blocks of flats belonging to a local authority more energy efficient.
Kershaw Contracting Services has just completed the installation of cavity wall insulation for the social housing in the London Borough of Haringey.
The £34,000 contract was on behalf of contractor Lovell, under the Social Housing Energy Saving Programme (SHESP).
Ian Macklin is the managing director of Kershaw Contracting Services. He said: “These flats will not only be considerably warmer now this cavity wall insulation has been fitted, but they will also cost less to heat.
“And that means less fuel needs to be burned. It’s good for the tenants in the properties, and great for the environment.”
Ian added: “We have been fitting insulation to buildings for decades. The cost benefits have long been known and now the focus is on reducing the amount of energy used to heat our homes, so we can reduce the impact on the environment. This is a good thing.”
From its Cottenham base Kershaw Contracting Services makes thousands of homes across the UK warmer and more energy efficient every year.
In another recent contract win, the company fitted £18,000 of loft insulation to new timber frame homes being constructed in Dover, for Jenner Contractors.
Kershaw Contracting Services has decades of experience in insulation and new boiler installations for homeowners and new home developers.
As well as central heating systems and fitting cavity wall insulation and loft insulation, the company specialises in the safe removal of asbestos.
It is a division of the Cambridge-based Kershaw Group.
Parts of the Kershaw Group have a history stretching back 120 years. It employs around 200 people and is well known for its involvement in the community.
