Boiler Scrappage Scheme triggers rise in enquiries for Cottenham firm

The Government’s new Boiler Scrappage Scheme has already triggered unusually high levels of enquiries for a local boiler replacement company.
The scheme was only launched at the start of the year, and encourages homeowners to replace their old, inefficient boilers with a £400 cash incentive towards a new one
Kershaw Contracting Services based in Cottenham is already receiving a larger than usual number of enquiries from homeowners seeking to take advantage of the scheme and replace their boilers.
“Many homeowners have boiler systems that are energy inefficient and cost more to run than new, improved boilers,” said Kershaw Contracting Services’ managing director Ian Macklin.
“The scheme is designed to help people upgrade the energy performance of their heating and hot water systems”
“The cold winter we have faced so far in 2010 further highlights the need for efficient boiler systems, which can heat rooms and hot water more quickly than inefficient ones.
“By replacing old boilers, homeowners will also see a reduction in their energy bills” he added.
Those who qualify for the £400 contribution towards a new boiler include homeowners, tenants in privately-owned houses and people who have a G-rated boiler. A G-rating denotes the lowest efficiency level.
Kershaw Contracting Services has years of experience in boiler installations for homeowners and new home developers.
As well as central heating systems, the company specialises in the safe removal of asbestos, fitting cavity wall insulation and loft insulation.
The company is a division of the Cambridge-based Kershaw Group.
Parts of the Kershaw Group have a history stretching back 120 years. It employs 183 people and is well known for its involvement in the community.
