Cambridge company backs calls to insulate every home in the UK for free
A Cambridge company led by people passionate about protecting the environment is backing calls to get every city house insulated free.
Kershaw Contracting Services specialises in fitting green domestic insulation and new boilers.
It’s fully behind suggestions by the Local Government Association that energy companies should have to pay for every home in the UK to have comprehensive insulation.
MD Mick Rayson said: “We’ve been fitting insulation to homes for decades and know how green it makes your property.
“Even something as basic as loft insulation means you pay less to heat your home, saving you from expensive domestic fuel price increases, as well as minimising the impact on the environment.
“But up to 80 per cent of homes in Cambridge don’t even have this.”
Mick added: “The only way to make a serious impact quickly is if the energy companies put their hands in their pockets and cough up.”
The recommendation by the Local Government Association would also have an added benefit.
It would lift an estimated half a million people out of fuel poverty, a situation where they can’t afford to heat their homes.
Kershaw Contracting Services is a division of the Cambridge-based Kershaw Group, which employs 183 people.
Parts of the group have a history stretching back 120 years.
It’s well known for its involvement in the community, including sponsoring Cambridge United’s away shirts.
