Cambridge home sellers: Improve sale chances with better energy rating
Homeowners desperate to sell their house in Cambridge are being told to make their homes more energy efficient to increase chances of a sale.
Cambridge’s largest domestic insulation company Kershaw Contracting Services, believes it’s vital to improve your home’s energy rating – and it’s cheaper than ever thanks to government subsidies.
New laws have just come in requiring sellers to have an Energy Performance Certificate prepared before any sale, as part of the Home Information Pack (Hip).
From 1st October homes being sold have had to be rated from an excellent ‘A’ to an energy inefficient ‘G’.
Mick Rayson, the Managing Director of Kershaw Contracting Services, said: “People think they need to take huge expensive steps to improve their energy rating, such as putting in new double glazing.
“But they don’t. It is simple actions such as putting in cheap loft insulation or getting cavity walls filled that makes the biggest difference. It’s now cheaper than ever before thanks to new government subsidies.
“Increasing your energy rating makes your home more desirable, and hopefully easier to sell.”
An estimated four out of five homes in the area can now benefit from energy saving measures announced at the beginning of September.
Among measures announced were free cavity wall and loft insulation for pensioners and poor households, and half price insulation for everyone else.
Kershaw Contracting Services is a division of the Cambridge-based Kershaw Group, and helps eligible people apply for grants.
Parts of the group have a history stretching back 120 years.
It employs 183 people and is well known for its involvement in the community.
