4 out of 5 Huntingdon homes are wasting 49,000 tonnes of CO2 each year
A staggering 4 out of 5 homes in Huntingdonshire are each pumping a tonne of CO2 into the atmosphere every year – because they don’t have any loft insulation.
49,818 homes are believed to be at blame, according to figures released by insulation and energy experts Kershaw Contracting Services.
It has calculated that just under 80 per cent of Huntingdonshire’s houses don’t have loft insulation.
And the firm’s Mick Rayson said it’s crazy – as it’s one of the easiest wastes of energy to fix.
He said: “Putting in a basic layer of loft insulation costs the average household about £500.”
“Good insulation reduces the need for so much heating, so it starts saving energy straight away. The average home will save £110 a year in heating bills.
“That means the insulation will have paid for itself within four years. But the benefit to the environment will last for years to come.”
Mick added: “Putting in loft insulation is one of the basics of cutting down your carbon footprint quickly and cheaply.”
Experts at Kershaw Contracting Services found industry figures that showed on average 79 per cent of homes have no loft insulation at all.
And that means 49,818 houses in the area.
Kershaw Contracting Services specialises in helping home owners and property developers save energy with new insulation and energy efficient heating systems.
