Cottenham firm sees cautious “green shoots” in new homes market
A Cottenham company is starting to see evidence of more confidence in the new homes market – just a few weeks after the recession officially ended.
One of the services supplied by Kershaw Contracting Services is installing brand new boilers and heating systems into new homes across the UK.
And it believes it is seeing cautious “green shoots” of recovery in the new homes market.
“Over the last few weeks we have heard of major house builders releasing properties, and even starting to buy up land again,” said Kershaw Contracting Services’ managing director Ian Macklin.
“More house builders are contacting us for quotes for new installations so far this quarter, when compared to the previous quarter.
“When you consider there was news in January that the construction industry has spent 22 months in recession, this is very good news.
“It’s possible that the slight increase in house prices last year is beginning to have an effect on construction, which may encourage more house building.”
Kershaw Contracting Services has a wide range of services that don’t rely on new home construction, including fitting insulation and removing asbestos.
The company has continued to trade profitably during the recession.
Ian added: “If we really are starting to see a cautious return of a buoyant new homes market, this will be very good news for everyone.”
The company is a division of the Cambridge-based Kershaw Group, shirt sponsors of Cambridge United.
Parts of the Kershaw Group have a history stretching back 120 years. It employs 183 people and is well known for its involvement in the community.
