Cottenham company starts insulating first 350 homes in major contract
A Cottenham company has started installing cavity wall insulation for 350 homes as part of a major new contract in London.
Kershaw Contracting Services – part of the city’s Kershaw Group – is working for Hackney Homes, which manages council homes in the area.
The not-for-profit organisation won £2.9m of funding for new insulation installations under SHESP, the Social Housing Energy Saving Programme.
“In all a total of £84m funding was released to authorities and housing associations across the UK,” revealed Ian Macklin, the managing director of Kershaw Contracting Services.
“We are currently surveying in other areas of the UK as well and hope to secure extra work on top of this contract for Hackney Homes.”
Under the contract, the company is installing cavity wall insulation into houses belonging to Hackney Homes.
The extra insulation has a number of green and cost-saving benefits.
“It means less heat escapes out of the walls,” Ian said, “so less fuel needs to be burned to heat the home.
“Less fuel means cheaper bills for the tenant and less impact on the environment.”
Kershaw Contracting Services is a company within the well known Cambridge-based Kershaw Group.
It specialises in fitting cavity wall insulation, loft insulation and high efficiency central heating systems.
Last year it was rewarded for its long-term commitment to excellent health and safety by being accepted into the exclusive SAFEcontractor programme.
Parts of the Kershaw Group have a history stretching back 120 years. It employs 183 people and is well known for its involvement in the community.
