Cambridge company helps city pensioners go green for free
A major Cambridge insulation company is helping city pensioners make their homes warmer and greener – for free.
Kershaw Contracting Services, part of the city’s Kershaw Group, is assisting people aged over 70 to apply for a 100% insulation grant.
They can use it for work on their house to make it more energy efficient. This includes new loft insulation and filling cavity walls.
The business’s Mick Rayson said it’s government money, and they want to help as many pensioners as possible to benefit.
He said: “The government is very keen that vulnerable households get proper insulation, not just because they will pay less to heat their homes, but because it will help them meet targets to reduce carbon emissions.
“As the largest domestic insulation installer in Cambridge, we intend to help as many eligible people in the city take advantage of this while the grant lasts!”
Kershaw Contracting Services works with its OAP customers to help them through the grant application process.
It encourages family members to get involved, so everyone can be clear what’s happening, and that it genuinely won’t cost anything.
The business is a division of the Cambridge-based Kershaw Group, which employs 183 people.
Parts of the group have a history stretching back 120 years.
It’s well known for its involvement in the community, including sponsoring Cambridge United’s away shirts.
Mick added: “Insulating your home properly is good for your wallet and the environment. I encourage everyone who’s eligible to contact us to get this grant.”
