Energy expert: Cambridge carbon conference is “positive step forward”
A Cambridge energy expert has described a recent conference in the city about reducing carbon emissions as “extremely positive”.
Paul McLeish is the sales and marketing director of Cottenham-based Kershaw Contracting Services, and attended the recent 2010 CAN East Conference.
CAN stands for Carbon Action Network. CAN-East is a partnership of 47 local authorities and 133 other members working together to reduce carbon emissions.
The partnership met at Chilford Hall Conference Centre, Linton, Cambridgeshire at the end of March.
The meeting focused on the changes to local government governance of climate change issues.
As a company that installs domestic insulation and new heating systems, Kershaw Contracting Services is committed to the aims of the organisation.
Paul said: “It was an extremely positive meeting, and thoroughly refreshing to see so many organisations in the same room, all committed to reducing carbon emissions”.
“The government has an objective of reducing carbon emissions by 80 per cent before 2050.
“Having spent the day at this conference, I believe this is much more likely. All sorts of different enterprises are learning to work together towards this common goal.”

• Home energy efficiency,
• Micro renewable technology
Kershaw Contracting Services has decades of experience in insulation and new boiler installations for homeowners and in 2010 is extending its energy saving services to include renewable solar energy and heat pump technologies.
As well as energy saving services, the company specialises in the safe removal of asbestos.
It is a division of the Cambridge-based Kershaw Group.
Parts of the Kershaw Group have a history stretching back 120 years. It employs around 200 people and is well known for its involvement in the community.
