City of London Contract Progressing Well for Kershaw Contracting Services
December 13 2017
Asbestos management specialists, Kershaw Contracting Services are progressing well on a series of targeted bathroom and kitchen refurbishment surveys for the City of London.
Part of the Decent Homes Programme, Kershaw Contracting Services was appointed by lead contractor TSG Building Services to undertake the surveys.
The Decent Homes Programme covers refurbishment of the Councils housing stock, where, according to the Government’s Decent Homes Standard, a home lacks three of these criteria:
- a reasonably modern kitchen (20 years old or less)
- a kitchen with adequate space and layout
- a reasonably modern bathroom (30 years old or less)
- an appropriately located bathroom and toilet
- safe and efficient heating
- safe and efficient electrical wiring
Asbestos is likely to be found in any building constructed prior to 2000, and whilst left undisturbed it is generally safe. Risks arise when the material the asbestos is contained within is cut, broken or allowed to deteriorate in some way.
Paul Meek, Kershaw Contracting Services said “We are delighted to be working with TSG Building Services on this contract, serving the City of London. Teaming our knowledge of asbestos management and surveys, with the vast experience of TSG means we can ensure the smooth delivery of this contract”
