£200,000 spent on council asbestos scare
£200,000 has been spent by a council after asbestos fibres were disturbed by workmen carrying out building improvement works.
Doncaster Council was forced to spend the money on temporary accommodation and hotels for the tenants affected.
Workmen were carrying out improvements under the Decent Homes programme when the fibres were found.
A Freedom of Information request by the local paper, the Doncaster Free Press, found that £30,000 was spent on asbestos testing and decontamination.
The other £170,000 was used for accommodation, replacing residents’ items contaminated by asbestos, and related costs within its housing department.
Kershaw Contracting Services is highly experienced in asbestos removal and disposal.
