New asbestos survey to help raise awareness
A survey has been released by asbestos campaigners to raise awareness of the dangers of the material.
The survey explores the general awareness and understanding of asbestos in building. It also includes the regulations that are designed to protect workers from becoming exposed to asbestos materials in the workplace.
The United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) helped to develop the survey and currently accredits over 100 asbestos inspection bodies.
The survey has been named the Great British Asbestos in Buildings Survey 2011 and is aimed at trade associations and trade unions, membership organisations and industry institutions.
Tradesmen, building occupiers, dutyholders, clients, and property managers of non-domestic buildings have all been encouraged to take the survey.
Asbestos is the single greatest cause of work related deaths in the UK with around 4000 people affected by it each year.
It is hoped that the survey results will help highlight the risks of asbestos and the duty to manage it.
Kershaw Contracting Services undertakes fully legal and licensed asbestos surveys and removals.
