Contractors need to push clients on asbestos surveys
Contractors should take a more proactive approach in ensuring clients get independent asbestos surveys done, after more than half of commercial tenants admitted they didn’t know the law.
A survey in the Midlands found many had no idea about the laws that were introduced in May 2004. And that could ultimately put contractors’ staff at risk.
The regulations state that it is tenants who have to comply with the regulations which impose a duty to investigate, monitor and manage asbestos in buildings.
This means tenants renting commercial premises must get an independent assessment of whether asbestos is or is likely to be present.
Getting a report done while any building work is being undertaken can not only help protect contractors’ staff, but can ensure future building moves go through more quickly.
Kershaw Contracting Services can undertake all asbestos surveys.
