Michelin ordered to pay compensation
Michelin UK has been ordered to pay £22,750 to a former employee in compensation for his exposure to asbestos.
Roy Ibbs, a welder and pipe fitter did not work in tyre manufacturing.
Michelin said that the payout was the result of Ibbs being exposed to asbestos more than 25 years ago, and was related to the construction of the building in which he was working at the time.
Ibbs’ solicitor said that his client’s duties put him in close proximity to asbestos lagged pipes when the lagging was being stripped off.
Michelin emphasised that asbestos has never been used as a component it its tyre manufacturing process.
