Retired teacher’s widow to sue school
The widow of a retired teacher from Liverpool is to sue the secondary school her husband taught at after his death from mesothelioma.
Sheila Schofield is seeking compensation because she believes her husband Brian was exposed to asbestos when he was a teacher at Foxford School in Coventry.
Brian Schofield, who died aged 72 in July 2007, taught maths and technical drawing at the school between 1969 and 1972 when he was in his thirties.
His widow commented: "It’s not about compensation, it’s about getting answers. I just want to know where his cancer came from so I can finally put this to rest."
There are fears now, should the source of his cancer be proved to be exposure to asbestos while he worked at Foxford School, that other former teachers and pupils may be suffering from its affects or may be affected by mesothelioma in the future.
The school has confirmed that a claim has been made.
Kershaw Contracting Services has decades of experience in asbestos removal, including in sensitive areas such as schools and colleges.
