Canadian asbestos campaign mine will continue exports
Canada’s last asbestos mine is set to continue its exportation of asbestos to developing nations, after a proposal to set up a government committee was voted out of Parliament.
The motion for a Parliamentary committee to be set up to investigate the dangers of exporting the material was proposed Quebec politician, Amir Khadir, who said that the government shouldn’t place its social responsibilities on to emerging markets. Canada’s legislative majority, the Liberal party, voted the motion out.
Canada has one active asbestos mine, which generates more than $100m CAD exporting mostly to developing nations and employs 400 people.
