Bootleg cigarettes smoked by children contain asbestos
Cigarettes sold under-the-counter seized in Birmingham and Derbyshire have been found to contain asbestos, which can be traced back to China.
Children are getting their hands on the illegal cigarettes, which are much cheaper than normal cigarettes and smuggled into the UK from Russia.
Tests show the cigarettes are twice as strong as cigarettes sold legally and some even contain asbestos. Experts are worried that other dangerous substances could be in the cigarettes.
At just 40p a packet, the cigarettes are particularly attractive to children who may smoke even more than they do usually because of the price.
Kershaw Contracting Services has decades of experience doing asbestos removal.
