Government body recommends banning sale of homes without insulation
People who own poorly-insulated homes would be banned from renting them out or selling them, under new proposals from a government advisory body.
The Energy Saving Trust has said there are 5.5 million homes in the UK that sit in the lowest two bands for energy performance.
That’s more than a fifth of all homes. And it also wants these homes to face higher council tax bills and additional stamp duty as way to encourage the owners to improve the energy efficiency.
A report in The Times says the Trust believes the tougher measures will be needed if the government is to achieve its target of reducing carbon emissions from home heating.
The target is 29 per cent by 2020 and “almost zero” by 2050.
Kershaw Contracting Services provides cavity wall and loft insulation to home owners, builders and contractors.
