Council green programmes could create 70,000 jobs
Up to 70,000 new jobs could be created across the UK if all councils helped home owners better insulate their homes.
Friends of the Earth calculated that 22,000 green jobs could be supported over the next ten years simply by installing new green technologies in homes.
These could include smart energy meters, more insulation and combined heat and power systems.
Currently, 65 local councils have schemes such as these.
Friends of the Earth would like to see every single UK council launch a scheme.
