Efficiency, efficiency, efficiency not location, location, location
Energy efficiency and the latest environmental standards are now the top of the list of desirable attributes for new home buyers, according to a YouGov survey for the New Homes Marketing Board.
The desire to own a ‘green’ home has now moved into the top three ahead of general value for money and location and is beaten only by ‘provision of a garden or outdoor space’ and ‘garage or private off-street parking’.
Despite projects designed to improve the energy efficiency of older houses, David Petty CBE, Chairman of the New Homes Marketing Board, insists that new homes are, “already 60 percent more energy efficient than older ones” and are “improving all the time”.
He added: “While we are well aware that environmental issues have been climbing steadily up the public agenda for some time, this is the first time they have climbed close to the top of the rankings.”
