Insulation could cause deaths in Australia
A nationwide energy saving plan in Australia has resulted in the commissioning of a huge safety audit after it was discovered that improperly installed foil insulation had caused a number of deaths.
Tens of thousands of homes will have to be checked for the fault that has made the entire roof cavity of affected houses live, by conducting electricity from mains cables.
The programme has now been suspended after a preliminary check of 400 homes discovered that up to a dozen may be dangerous.
It’s not the first problem with the scheme. A number of installers died from heat exhaustion last year because of high roof cavity temperatures caused by the southern Australia summer.
Here in the UK, Kershaw Contracting Services provides safe cavity wall and loft insulation to authorities, builders, contractors and home owners.
