Energy campaigners urge the government to improve incentives for renewable energy
Friends of the Earth wants to see significant improvements to the government’s Clean Energy Cash Back System.
Currently, the scheme rewards utility companies who invest in renewable energy by spreading the difference in cost between fossil fuels and renewable energy amongst customers.
David Timms, energy campaigner at Friends of the Earth, is keen for the scheme’s payments to be increased so that it really makes a difference.
Specifically, the organisation is calling for domestic renewable energy generation to be rewarded by paying people who generate their own clean, green power.
Recently, Friends of the Earth suggested that councils could improve their low carbon commitments if UK ministers were to develop the concept of carbon budgets.
