Case Studies :: Asbestos Services :: VIRIDOR

Viridor is a waste management company with 240 sites throughout the UK. In March 2008, a representative of Viridor contacted Kershaw Contracting Services, requiring advice on repairing one of their buildings.
The building in question has an asbestos cement roof, approximately 12,000 msq in area. Due to the adverse weather, experienced at the site, which is based next to the Thames Estuary, the asbestos cement roof sheets had been coming loose and blowing off the roof, leaving certain areas of the building exposed to the elements.

Additionally, one of the baling machines, used for compressing waste materials, ‘backed up’ and, due to the enormous pressure used within the machine, tore a hole in the roof. We agreed that the roof above the baling machine feed conveyor, should be raised, by approximately 1m.
The second area, required the removal of 100msq of asbestos sheets, followed by the reinstatement of 400msq of plastisol-coated galvanised sheeting. This would also involve the replacement of 14 broken concrete purlins.
Following receipt of the order, the work commenced on the 5th June 2008, and was completed within three weeks. Following a successful, site inspection by their Regional Manager; our next project is due to start in July.
