ARCA appoints new Chairman from Cambridge-based building services company
Ian Macklin, Managing Director of Kershaw Contracting Services has been appointed Chairman of the Asbestos Removal Contractors Association (ARCA) - the leading trade association in the field of asbestos management services – a role he is well qualified for, having served on ARCA’s Governing Council for seven years and as Regional Chairman for the South East for four of these.
Ian brings to his new position over 25 years in asbestos management. Kershaw Asbestos offers asbestos surveying, removal and consultancy for clients that include contractors, commercial landlords, local authorities, housing associations and private individuals. He originally started with the company as General Manager for asbestos removal and has seen the company’s asbestos business develop and grow over the years, a recent achievement being the award of the highly regarded UKAS accreditation to perform asbestos surveys and inspections.
A key part of Ian’s Chairmanship will be to ensure that ARCA continues to be the voice of the industry and represent its members’ interests. Commenting on his appointment, Ian said “I’m extremely honoured and proud to have been elected for this role and I’m looking forward to a challenging two year tenure.”
“Some of my aims are to ensure that the competency scheme continues to flourish, and to see it rolled out further to include contracts managers and directors, to establish the Asbestos Removal Management Institute (ARMI); a professional body for managers within the asbestos removal industry, and to continue to develop ties with contractors in the Republic of Ireland through their newly established membership regions.”
“These, along with other plans, will maintain ARCA’s position as the premier trade association within the asbestos industry” explained Ian.
